Home Chef

Home Chef is a Progressive Web Application users can download and search for chefs in their city and their respective menus, so they can make them a classy meal of cuisine of their choosing in the comfort of their home. This was my final Front-End Web Development project I designed and developed in the sprint term of 3 months at the University of Huddersfield.

What Was Done

On the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic, there was a large section of the British public, who missed fine dining or a good meal cooked for them by a professional chef other than a takeaway. I came up with a concept where chefs could come and cook different cuisines in major cities for punters in the comfort of their own home following government regulations. The ultimate goal of the project was not to only just ease the feeling of having some part of regular daily life before the pandemic restored but to ensure this concept would outlive the virus and its effects on British society. The research was conducted to filter the best cuisines that the app would offer, what users would expect from such a service, the must-haves not haves. User personas were created and the app was branded. Next, the app was designed and developed using the tools and technologies below. I mostly relied on vanilla Javascript to build the site and employed frameworks lightly to demonstrate my proficiency in Javascript. The HTML and CSS (SASS) were also hardcoded to built pretty much 80% of the app structure and responsive design. It was tested to find out if it met user needs. This is the work that was carried out,
